CODA, in collaboration with Varèse Sarabande, is thrilled to unveil our vinyl release of the iconic soundtrack to David Lynch’s 1986 cinematic masterpiece, Blue Velvet. This commemorates the inaugural collaboration between Lynch and composer Angelo Badalamenti, a partnership that would go on to shape some of the most influential works in film history.
Badalamenti’s score masterfully blends ’50s jazz with classic film noir ambiance, creating a soundscape that is both hauntingly beautiful and richly atmospheric. This release features pivotal tracks that have become synonymous with the film, including Badalamenti’s evocative “Mysteries of Love,” performed by Julee Cruise with lyrics by Lynch; Roy Orbison’s “In Dreams”; and the timeless 1963 rendition of “Blue Velvet” by Bobby Vinton.
Additionally, the set includes film cues, alternates, and outtakes, collectively titled “Lumberton Firewood.” Lynch and Badalamenti intended many tracks to be merely “firewood,” their term for raw orchestral sonorities to be edited and manipulated into sound design by the director.
The 2xLP set showcases stunning artwork by the remarkably talented Greg Ruth and comes housed in a gatefold jacket with a transparent blue ‘velvet’ print o-card.
