Carsten Nicolai is perhaps best known for his work as Alva Noto but here uses his given name for an incredibly imaginative conceptual art record comprising recordings that appeared at his 2023 solo exhibition Strahlen/raggi at Fondazione Modena Arti Visive. The clue is in the title Ray Collector. Nicolai posted ten packages addressed to Twenty Thousand Leagues Under The Sea's fictional captain Nemo. The packages of course would be returned to sender. They contained blank media; magnetic cassette tape, black and white film, and Kodak colour negative film which would be exposed to electromagnetic waves and radiation on their journey through the postal system. The audio/visual results were developed and shaped into this work.
