'Pretty Hate Machine' was the first time the public heard Trent Reznor's unique and approachable take on industrial music as Nine Inch Nails. Unlike the distortion heavy goth rock jams of classic releases like 'The Downward Spiral' or 'Broken', NiN's debut is more akin to the synth and electropop of Depeche Mode or New Order, albeit a fair amount darker. It includes the stone-cold classic single 'Head Like A Hole', plus the bangers 'Terrible Lie' and 'Sanctified'. An intriguing release that's a clear standout in Nine Inch Nails' discography, it's hard to believe this classic is over 30 years old.
