'World Of Rubber' was originally released back in 1981 on Cherry Red and wonderfully mirrored the economic and social gloom that enveloped the UK during the Thatcher era. Now hailed as something of a post-punk minor classic, much like Joy Division, Second Layer created a bleak monochrome sound that's evocative of England's battleship grey skies, driven by a drum machine that adds an extra cold, detached machine element. Band members Adrian Borland and Graham Bailey would go on to form The Sound.
