2022 Repress.
Talk of Liberation first began to circulate after Talib Kweli posted a short but significant blog on myspace in September 2006 along with the track 'Funny Money'. Fans flooded message-boards and blog pages, anxious for news of the full set's impending release, and expectations were very quickly set at a point somewhere well above the bar. when the 9-track project hit the web for free on January 2007, it was evident from the huge traffic and reviews that these masters of beat music had delivered in style; the cohesion of Kweli's sharp, quick spitting lyrics and Madlib's progressive production made for a massively-demanded collection.
Disabled for download inside a week to beat the pirates, Liberation is now officially available as a physical release from Kweli's infant Blacksmith label, but only until the date for his new 'ear drum' full-length is announced, after which time it will be withdrawn from sale. Guests include Consequence, Res, and new Blacksmith signing Strong Arm Steady, and with all production by Madlib, this has to be an unmissable gotta-getta for any breathing hip-hop fan.
