Japanese producer Videotapemusic has been doing his thing for about a decade now, releasing five albums in his home country, but Souvenir is his first LP to reach these shores. The basic idea is that he finds bargain-bin VHS tapes and repurposes their sounds, fleshing them out with full band and studio trickery. It’s a lovely mix of hypnagogic pop, Japanese psych-folk sounds and wistful Captured Tracks-style indie.
